The first version of Lertap was made for the Venezuelan Ministry of Education. Its first home in the United States was at the University of Colorado's Laboratory of Educational Research, from which it emigrated to New Zealand in 1973. It eventually arrived in Western Australia in 1984, where, three years after arriving, it went into a virtual cocoon until 2000.
