Soft where?

This is the page, read all about it— how to get yourself rigged up with a copy of Lertap.

Lertap will run on (almost) any computer which can run Microsoft's Excel program. Excel is one part of a suite of programs generally referred to as "Microsoft Office"; other components of Office are Word and PowerPoint.

Excel-lent stuff

Is there a link between Lertap and Excel? Most definitely. Absolutely. Totally. Lertap is a data analysis application written to work hand in glove with Excel. This has all sorts of advantages; Lertap leans on Excel for data processing oomph— when Lertap needs to have some calculations done, it often gets Excel to do them. Almost all of Lertap's graphs are really Excel charts, and Excel has some good chart-making capabilities.

Do you have to be an Excel whiz to use Lertap? Not at all. Not a bit. Lertap fronts up to Excel on your behalf. You could think of Excel as the motor to your car. Lertap is the car. It's got posh seats,a great music system, is easy to drive, and runs on green tea. You don't need to know anything about the motor.

On the other hand, if you like to tinker with motors, you can. If you have some Excel experience, you'll know that it's easy to make charts, and you might use a bit of your innate creativity to highlight bits of Lertap's output, getting Excel to make a nifty new chart or two for that special paper or PowerPoint presentation you've been working on. (Can be addictive.)

Versions

There are a few versions of Lertap. Most are for use with Windows versions of Excel, but there's also a version which runs on Macintosh computers via Excel 2011.

All versions of Lertap for Windows are available at Assessment Systems Corporation, a commercial site which offers free 30-day trials.

A 'Mini' version of Lertap for use with Excel 2010 and Excel 2013 is available using links from Curtin University in Western Australia. The Macintosh version is also available from Curtin.

Assessment Systems Corporation, ASC

ASC is a major online resource centre for software and books having to do with the use of tests and measurement, and data analysis. Their website is at: www.assess.com.

Visit the Lertap section within the ASC site, and you'll see that it is possible to download a 30-day trial version of Lertap for Windows.

The ASC site is a large one. Lertap is found under the Classical Item and Test Analysis section. If you want to jump directly to ASC's Lertap area, go here:

Note that it is possible to obtain Lertap from ASC without downloading it via the internet. You can have ASC send you a CD with the software and documentation. Please refer to the ASC site for further information, or email sales@assess.com.

Curtin University

Curtin is the home of Lertap 5. The material you're reading right now is housed on the Lertap website at Curtin. Welcome.

Copies of the Mini version of Lertap for Excel 2010 and Excel 2013 may be downloaded from this link at quia.com:

http://www.quia.com/pages/lnelson11/lertap

The Mini version comes with all of Lertap's bells and whistles (that is, it's fully functional), but is limited to processing only the first 50 records of a dataset.

It's possible to convert the Mini version to the 'Full' version (no limits of any kind), or to the 'Standard' version (limited to a set number of days or months)

Macintosh users: Lertap for use with Excel 2011 is available from Curtin. If you have an interest in it, please send a message to support@lertap.com, or to l.nelson@curtin.edu.au.
